USING THE STEREO EDITOR KEY CUSTOMIZER Key Custom
The Stereo Editor has been designed to be as flexible as possible, and one of the foremost features used to provide that flexibility is the Key Customizer module. Using this special utility allows you to reassign almost any editing function to the key of your choice. If you find the default editor keys awkward or cumbersome, Key Customizer may be the solution to your problem.
When you choose to enter Key Customizer from Stereo Editor's menu, you will be prompted to insert your editor program disk, and the Customizer will be installed in memory. Once it's there, you can quickly and easily move between the Customizer and normal editor screen with no disk access unless a different load-in module (such as the Words File Editor) is used.
Once you've entered Key Customizer, you will be presented with a scrolling list of editor functions in a window at the top of the screen. To the right of each possible function is the name of the key that is used to invoke that function. For example:
Go to Next Voice..........CRSR DOWN
The up and down cursor keys allow you to scroll through the 70+ different functions. To change the key assigned to a function, move to the desired function and press RETURN. Next, press the key (or combination of SHIFT, Commodore, or CONTROL plus a key) you wish to use to invoke that function. Take care not to accidentally assign the same key to two or more different functions. The exception to this rule is if the functions are from two separate editing modes, such as note entry mode and command entry mode. With most keys, it is not even necessary to first press RETURN. For example, if you wish the up arrow key to call up the main menu, you need only press the up arrow key alone when next to the appropriate function name. Obviously, however, you do need to press RETURN first to specify keys such as the cursor keys or RETURN itself.
Once you've adjusted the key assignments to your liking, you may exit Key Customizer by pressing the STOP key or the F5 key. Feel free to try out your new settings, and if you're not satisfied, you can always re-enter the Customizer to fine-tune your choices. When you're fully happy with your selections, you can use the "Save Configuration" option to make these keys your defaults whenever you boot Stereo Editor.
For reference, the functions that can be modified are as follows:
Move Forward/Backward in Voice, Move to Start/End of Voice, Move to Next/Last Measure, Go to Next/Previous Voice, Toggle Single/All Voices, Select Rest, C, D, E, etc. Pitches, Select Octaves 0-7, Change Pitch to Double Flat, Flat, Natural, Sharp, or Double Sharp, Toggle Tied/Untied Note, Enter Current Note into Current Voice, Delete Note/Command, Insert a Space.
