Introduction

ABOUT STEREO EDITOR AND THE DOCUMENTATION
By Laura L. Kennemore (Lyric)
November 1989

It is assumed that the user of this software is already well versed in the use of the original Enhanced Sid Editor program. No effort will be made in this documentation to explain elements of music theory, Sidplayer commands, or other well-known conventions.

Also note that it is NECESSARY to have a copy of the book/disk combination "Compute!'s Music System for the Commodore 128 and 64: The Enhanced Sidplayer". The Stereo Editor will NOT function without the stand-alone player module from the Enhanced Sidplayer disk.

The Stereo Editor offers a tremendous step forward in the creation of SID music files. The concept was often spoken of, but the implementation seemed overwhelming, if not impossible. Robert Stoerrle made it possible. He asked opinions from many of the based SID music artists, requesting ideas of what each would like to see, and which functions were most useful. Armed with this counsel and a long "wish list", he set about turning theory into reality.

The Stereo Editor has been designed to be a complete SID music development system. Almost every tool needed to create SID files from start to finish is included. However, the program itself is only part of the total package, and to make any use out of the Stereo Editor, you MUST have a copy of the book "Compute!'s Music System for the Commodore 128 & 64: The Enhanced Sidplayer".

The Stereo Editor is an extremely complex program; it is absolutely essential that you carefully read the instructions for its use. This documentation file explains only how to use the Stereo Editor; no information on music theory or the commands used by the SID player will be given, as that is already very eloquently explained in the above-mentioned book.

Foremost, it is imperative that you approach the Stereo Editor as brand new software. We want to emphasize that this program is completely new and not based on Chamberlain's software. While many of the same functions are available, much of it is implemented differently, with new options added. If you view the Stereo Editor as a duplicate of Chamberlain's previous programs, you will encounter difficulties. It isn't a duplicate.

NOTE: Three-voice mono SIDs may also be created with the Stereo Editor using voices 1 through 3.
